Self-Publishing with Heart
BookBaby, the largest distributing network for indie authors, has recently begun to help others give back.
In the past, the company has served self-publishing authors in an easy to use 3-step process. Authors send their books to BookBaby, the book is converted to fit any eBook format (Kindle, iPad, Nook, and more), and then BookBaby makes sure that authors receive 100 percent of the profits. They also offer services for books in print. Services start at a relatively inexpensive 99 dollars.
On their site, BookBaby released a free step-by-step guide for self-publishers who want to use eBooks to fundraise. The guide takes authors through the publishing process from creation to distribution. It even addresses whether or not a book would benefit particular fundraisers.
In an interview with The Sacramento Bee, BookBaby president Brian Felsen said, “Online fundraising is a great use for eBooks. Creating and selling eBooks is a fresh, new idea for schools and clubs who need to raise a lot of money each year. We’ve had groups publish cookbooks, song books, class trip travel journals and more. The guide has a lot of ideas and suggestions for creating your own money maker.”
The guide makes fundraising easy and lucrative for schools and organizations that want to raise money. A few of the main questions addressed in the guide include:
- Is this kind of fundraiser a good fit for our group?
- What kind of book should we create?
- How do we publish it?
- How do I get the word out that we have an eBook?
